PIVE plan last year introduced the offer the incentives to drivers on the Island of Ibiza and Spain, to exchange their old cars for new models. It was intended to run until March 2013 but by January 2013 the funds for this incentive had been exhausted. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy was in Chile on an official visit quoted that he plans to add another 150 million euros to this project. This project was to cover scrapping of vehicles more than 12 years old which was subsidized with around 75 million euros. It is estimated that another 150,000 car owners will be able to take advantage of this project for the second time.
The National Automobile Manufacturers Association has welcomed the project with open arms and has anticipated that thousands of more vehicles will be sold over the coming months, bringing the tax revenue almost 300 million euros. This project has also helped the in the job sector for Spain saving over 4500 jobs across the country. Without this plan the car industry was on a large decline and the number of vehicles sold in 2012 had dropped by 13% compared with 2011 which was around 700,000 vechiles. This has been the lowest level of sales since recorded history which started in 1989. Time to trade your car for a new one!

The Consell published a report last week showing the usage of the different bus routes on the island. During last year there were a total of 4,774,500 passengers, an increase of 12.6 percent compared to 2010. It is Autocares San Antonio which has the concession for the most frequently used route, that of Ibiza Town to San Antonio, with more than 900,000 passengers during the year. The next most popular line is run by Voramar el Gaucho and covers the route from Ibiza Town to Playa den Bossa (683,000), closely followed by the route to Santa Eulalia (626,000), which is the responsibility of HF Vilas. It is another route operated by Voramar el Gaucho, from Ibiza Town to the Airport, which is in fourth place (573,917).
As far as individual bus companies are concerned, it is Voramar el Gaucho which carried the greatest number of people, with 2.7 million passengers on their seventeen different routes, an increase of 10 percent on 2010, followed by HF Vilas with just over one million, which was an increase of 32 percent on the previous year. Autocares San Antonio, which only had one main bus line plus the infrequent service which runs between Ses Païsses and the schools and sports complex at Can Coix, carried 936,000 passengers. The modest Autocares Lucas Costa, which only serves the area around San Miguel, carried 82,000 people.
Recently the Balearic Govern negotiated with central government improved air links between Menorca and the mainland, and this week a subsidy of 826,000€ was also granted to Menorca to improve its public transport service. This figure is more than double that received annually by Ibiza, where there are far more passengers using the transport system, causing Vicent Serra, President of the Ibiza Consell, to complain that the money currently apportioned is simply not sufficient.
